NISP viewer

The NISP viewer is an initial capability to enhance accessibility to information about standards and sets of standards included in the NISP.
It is developed by the C3Board Interoperability Capability Team.

NISP database

The NISP (NATO Interoperability Standards and Profiles) database is used as the source for the mandatory interoperability standards and profiles in NISP Volume 2 (HTML and PDF) and candidate interoperability standards and profiles in NISP Volume 3 (HTML and PDF).

Use the menu Search database to view information about standards or profiles in the NISP database.
Note that the PDF version of NISP Volume 2 is still the authoritative version.

NISP standard status

The NISP defines two types of obligations for standards.
The first type applies to standards included in Volume 2 and Volume 3. Standards in Volume 2 are Mandatory and standards in Volume 3 are Candidate.
The second type applies to standards included in a profile. In the profiles, interoperability standards fall into four obligation categories (Source: FMN Spiral 2 Standards Profile):

  • Mandatory - Mandatory interoperability standards must be met to enable Federated Mission Networking;
  • Conditional - Conditional interoperability standards must be present under certain specific circumstances;
  • Recommended - Recommended interoperability standards may be excluded for valid reasons in particular circumstances, but the full implications must be understood and carefully weighed; and
  • Optional - Optional interoperability standards are truly optional.
The sub-menu Standards information shows for each standard both types of obligations.

NISP profiles

The NISP Volumes identify one type of profile, called Profile. In the database, this Profile is identified as Capability Profile. A Capability Profile can consist of Profiles and at the lowest level Service Profiles. The hierarchy in the database is reflecting the structure of the profile source documents. The NISP viewer makes this hierarchy visible.
