How to use the NISP

The NISP is intended for:

  • Capability planners involved in NATO Defence Planning Process (NDPP) and NATO - led initiatives.
  • Requirement managers in selecting relevant standards and defining interoperability specifications.
  • Programme managers at the national levels, developing (common-funded) capabilities or supporting national initiatives.
  • Test managers organizing events such as Coalition Warrior Interoperability Excercise (CWIX) and the Coalition Interoperability Assurance and Verification (CIAV).

The NISP is mandatory for the planning, implementation and testing of NATO common-funded capabilities as well as for developing national capabilities that supports NATO-led operations and missions.

All stakeholders across the Alliance are encouraged to regularly assess their capabilities to ensure that they are developed in line with the agreed standards and profiles detailed in the NISP.
