Remark/Example | Data accessibility is fundamental for ensuring that data is available and retrievable by authorized individuals, organizations, or systems using appropriate tools or devices. This entails maintaining and administering local services, cloud storage, databases, or repositories throughout the Data Exploitation Lifecycle in accordance with NATO policies, enabling authorized users and systems to access data effectively. Accessibility plays a crucial role in data management by ensuring that data is readily available to those who require it, with protective mechanisms such as security controls in place to regulate access according to security policies. This principle encompasses various aspects, including user accessibility, device accessibility, and data format accessibility, each evaluated based on their degree of accessibility to intended users or devices. Moreover, this principle maintains that data collected or created in one operational domain shall be accessible for processing and fusion across all other domains and functional areas in support of multi-domain operations (MDO). The objective of enhancing data accessibility is to enable authorized users to access the required data promptly, including through automatic delivery to interested parties. Compliance with NATO Policies and Standards is imperative, with Allies and the NATO Enterprise working to make data, including warfighting, intelligence, and business data, accessible to authorized users while ensuring that protective measures are in place to regulate access. Progress in achieving data accessibility is measured through objectives such as the implementation of documented standard Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), the establishment of common platforms and services for data management, and the control of data access and sharing through reusable APIs, thereby facilitating efficient and controlled data utilization across the organization. |
