Remark/Example | The principle of shared data emphasizes the distribution and dissemination of data to foster collaboration and cooperation among individuals, systems, and organizations. Sharing data facilitates effective utilization, collaborative exchange of information, and compliance with security policies and regulations. Consideration of various factors such as data formats, compatibility, transfer methods, and access controls is essential to optimize data sharing and overcome constraints while maximizing opportunities for collaboration. NATO is committed to sharing data to advance common military objectives, necessitating a change towards an improved management of the balance between the dominating "Need to Know" security principle and the Information Management principle of "Responsibility to Share" . Implementing legal and contractual frameworks, enforcing usage rights, and ensuring data visibility are key practices to realize the goal of shared data. Data stewards and custodians play a vital role in making data visible and accessible to authorized users by identifying, labelling, registering, and exposing data assets across the Alliance and external partners as appropriate. Progress in achieving shared data is evident when data is readily available for authorized users, and metadata standards are implemented to facilitate discovery and access methods for shared data assets. |
