By decentralizing data ownership, it empowers NATO entities to manage their data as products while adhering to shared governance and standards for interoperability. It integrates structured and unstructured data types—including databases, XML datasets, multimedia, and documents—through metadata-driven discoverability and semantic alignment using NATO agreed standards. This ensures that data can be securely discovered, accessed, and used across the Alliance.
The architecture minimizes disruption to legacy systems by integrating them through adapters and connectors aligned with data mesh principles, maintaining compatibility while modernizing capabilities. Federation is supported through distributed data catalogs, standardized policies, and a set of standardized APIs. By combining decentralized management, shared governance, and interoperability, this capability advances the Alliance's operational readiness and ability for exploiting data for decsion making.
